San Pascual

San Pascual Bailón is the patron saint of cooking. The 17th of May is his Saints day. He was a Franciscan monk who always cared for the poor. It seems that he always wanted to cook and would try different ingredients to make the food better for those he fed. He would always pray as he cooked and seemed to be “dancing “ as he moved around the kitchen. This Saint is very popular in Puebla although he was actually Spanish. There’s a verse that is associated with him:

”San Pascualito Bailón, báilame en este fogón. Tu me pones la sazón y yo te bailo un danzón“.
